Modeling: Showpiece Update!

Hey everyone, so, work on my showpiece has been a bit slower than I planned, due to getting ready for a new puppy and prepping for some military training time coming up. I originally intended to put the finished work up as my next post, but that might be another week or two. Instead, I decided to give you all a look at my progress so far...

Modeling: My First Showpiece

Hey all, so, I just realized I have unintentionally kept you in the dark as to what I have been working on lately. Here's a quick sneak peek:

What Makes The Green Grass Grow?

As promised, here are some fully painted photos of the objective marker I created in the "Trash or Treasure: Empty Sprues" post. I decided to keep the spikes black so the eyes are naturally drawn to the subject of the piece (the heads). Now that I have finally used it, I really like static grass (just don't sneeze or blow near the open tub. That stuff flies...). Enjoy!

Trash or Treasure: Empty Sprues

Welcome to the first installment of Trash or Treasure! This time we're taking a look at the most common "trash" we come across as miniature gamers- the stacks of empty sprues left from the completion of a model kit.

Tutorial: Metallic Carapaces

Lately, I have had many questions about how I get the metallic green color for the carapaces on my wife's Tyranid models. It is such a simple process, I guarantee any of you can do it, no matter what your painting level is. First, I started off with a little bit of inspiration....

One Man's Trash...

Is another man's treasure! We've all heard the saying, so i was thinking, could it apply to miniatures and modeling, too? I was doing some house clean up the other day, and I ran into these from my Stormraven Gunship kit. Now, if you're like me, you normally throw these empty sprues right into the trash as soon as your model is complete and you've removed all the extra bits. What kind of treasure, then, can this so-called trash become?

I want to be a Space Marine!

I probably sound like a little kid right now, but really, I want to be one! I finally got a chance to play the Space Marine and Kill Team demos on my XBox 360, and I must say, I'm in the camp of people that LOVE the games.

Playing and/or Promoting at Game Kastle tonight...

If anybody is going to be at or around Game Kastle (on Coleman Avenue in Santa Clara, Ca) tonight, I'll be there by 6PM at the latest to (hopefully) get some game time in, and I will also have models there for anyone to look at if they are interested!

Come on down! It's Warhammer Fantasy/40k night (every Thursday!) and you're sure to meet some great people, see some wonderful armies being played, and possibly even find a new opponent/friend if you bring your army!

Death Awakens

Photo from Dawn of War: Dark Crusade

With all this talk of the expected Codex:Necrons release, I figured now would be as good a time as any to start work on my brother's Necron models...

My Beginnings

Now that I have introduced myself, I thought I would give you all a quick overview of my start down the road into the hobby of miniature wargaming....

Hello and welcome!

Welcome to Deep Strike Painting!

Starting off with a little introduction. My name is Reuben, and I am a California Bay Area gamer. I currently play Warhammer 40,000, and I own just about a little over 2,000 points worth of Blood Angels. I also have a small contingent of Orks I am working on, and a slowly growing swarm of Tyranids I am doing for my wife. The pages for these armies are still under construction, but the photos have been posted up for you all to see.

I will be offering commission building/painting services for whatever gaming system you might play, whether it is Warhammer (Fantasy or 40k), Warmachine, Lord of the Rings, miniatures for RPGs, or anything else you might play that needs a touch of paint or glue. I am also open to special requests, such as terrain and battle scene dioramas. Just let me know what you're looking for, and I'll let you know what I can do! I'll be posting details in the "Commissions" tab soon.

This is my first blog, and I'm working on ideas for content I can provide to you, my readers. I have a few topics of my own in mind, but I would like to open the floor for you to give some input. If there is anything you would like me to add to my content list, put your ideas in the comments below, or email me at DeepStrikePainting@gmail.com.

Thanks for reading, and again, welcome to Deep Strike Painting!
